Sawandarek Jetty

Sawandarek Jetty is one of the gentler operational profiles in the Dampier Strait research. One operator publishes four to twenty metres with none-to-mild current, while two sources agree on beginner or all-level use.

That makes the site useful for a first dive, mixed-experience group or slower photography plan. It does not remove the need for a current check and respectful use of a community jetty.

The dive

The group can stay around the pilings and shallow reef rather than chase depth. The published maximum is twenty metres, but a new diver may use a shallower profile.

Operator descriptions list hard and soft coral, giant clams, green turtles, fusiliers, barracuda and smaller subjects. The structure and coral are the dependable reason to visit. Animals are potential.

Beginner fit

Two-source agreement supports the beginner label more strongly than at Arborek, where current and level claims conflict.

A new diver still needs buoyancy control around coral and pilings. The site should not become a place to kneel while solving equipment. Use the check dive or a sandy area selected by the guide for adjustments.

If current or boat traffic changes the situation, the all-level label does not force the entry.

Snorkellers

Shallow structure can give a snorkeller useful access to the same visual scene. The research does not publish a Sawandarek-specific snorkelling claim, so we do not overstate it.

Ask whether the tender remains, who guides the activity and which part of the jetty is safe for entry. Do not swim independently around working boats.

Community boundary

Sawandarek is an inhabited place. The jetty remains community infrastructure while guests dive it.

Keep tenders and equipment where local arrangements permit. Do not block access or treat people using the jetty as background subjects. Ask before photographing anyone.

Photography

Pilings, shallow light and coral can suit wide-angle work, while small subjects reward a slower lens. Choose one plan from the guide's briefing.

Maintain distance from coral and giant clams. A stable shallow hover is more important than putting a housing close to the reef.

Evidence limits

Depth, current and the animal list come from one operator. The experience category has two-source support. No audited authority publishes coordinates, visibility or season.

We therefore omit those figures and do not borrow timing from another Dampier site.

Access and route role

Sawandarek can be reached by regional day boats and liveaboards. It works well late in a trip when divers want a shallower profile, but inclusion is not guaranteed.

Choose it for a gentle-shaped jetty dive and shared shallow interest. Keep the same daily judgement used at every site, even when the published level says beginner.
